At Berlin's Umuganura celebration, Ejo Labs founders were recognised for their contribution to Rwanda's community through education, technology, and Kinyarwanda-first AI.

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, Rwandans living in Germany, friends of Rwanda, and partners gathered in Berlin to celebrate Umuganura. The event was a moment of joy, reflection, and appreciation for people and organisations contributing to the Rwandan community.

Umuganura is one of Rwanda's most meaningful cultural celebrations. Traditionally marked on the first Friday of August, it is a time to celebrate harvest, share what has been achieved, and recognise progress across many areas of life. In Berlin, that spirit extended naturally to education, technology, and the work of Rwandans in the diaspora.

As part of the celebration, community members were recognised for their contributions in different fields. In education and technology, Bosco Kalinijabo and Protogene Hahirwabayo, founders of Ejo Labs, were appreciated for their work.

For Ejo Labs, the recognition speaks to a mission that has guided the team from the beginning: building technology that serves Kinyarwanda speakers and makes AI more accessible in the language people use every day. One of the clearest examples is EjoChat, a Kinyarwanda AI chat experience.

The appreciation also recognised the team's broader work in education. Through the Summer Talent Program 2026, Ejo Labs is helping high school and university students learn practical technology skills over five weeks, explore AI responsibly, and turn knowledge into useful projects. The program brings together partners from public institutions and the private sector.

The celebration also made space for culture and shared learning. Attendees joined in riddles and general knowledge questions about Umuganura, creating a lively exchange around history, values, and Rwandan identity. It was not only a ceremony of recognition; it was also a reminder that culture is carried forward through participation. For Ejo Labs, this moment is both encouragement and responsibility. It strengthens our commitment to keep building useful technology for Kinyarwanda speakers, especially where AI can help people access knowledge, services, and opportunities in a language that feels close to them.
